Synopsis: A fearless Syrian Christian girl is determined to lead her family safely to Sunday worship–braving a gauntlet of scorn, hostility, and violence.
Hello! My name is Mary Theresa,
I am the writer of Our Lady of Iraq. A film about a fearless, Syriac Catholic girl who tries to get her family to mass on Sunday despite the persecution of Christians that has been going on for many years.
Jason Jones inspired me to write this story. I met him the summer of 2011 at a Catholic Family Conference in Anaheim, California. I was in my first year of film school at John Paul the Great Catholic University and happened to stop by his “Movie to Movement” booth. I told him I was Iraqi Catholic and his eyes lit up. Jason has a dream. A dream to let the world know what exactly the Christians of Iraq go through every day. I will never forget his face when he told me “you’re the one that’s going to write my film.” I was so excited, I could not wait to get back to school and tell my professors all about my experience.
I believe this film will make a huge difference. It will show what our people are going through and how they struggle to live a normal life every day. I hope you are able to contribute whatever you can to this film. I thank you for taking the time to look at this project. I ask you more than anything to please keep the Persecuted Christians in your thoughts and prayers.
